As mentioned earlier, “the Chamber” (the parliament?) in France with Sarkozy as lead puppeteer voted in an undemocratic fashion. This allowed the “Hadopi” law to pass, or at least the “three suspected copyright infringements and you’re banned from the internet” part (commonly referred to as “three strikes”).
Fortunately, Assemblée Nationale denied this potential rape of democratic procedure and what’s left of France’s respect. I have no idea whether the “constitutional council” I mentioned in the last post has anything to do with this or how legislation is passed in France. But apparently the could-have-been law is no more.
I’m not up to date with the details of the Hadopi law, as I’m not entirely fluent in even merely reading French… But it seems like something we don’t have to fear just quite yet at least…
I might update with English sources later. But I hope the three strikes-debate (for France) is dead and buried. The problem is whether the European Union wants to let it slide into the Telecoms package.
